Q: |
Can I compile/install my own applications, or rebuild Apache, MySQL, etc?
| |
Yes, you can compile and run your own
applications and/or recompile the included daemons to your taste. To reduce disk
consumption, however, most of the core files for the virtual server and it's daemons
are hardlinked so that only one copy exists on the physical server. To overwrite
these files, one of our admins must 'relink' your files so that you have an independent
copy to use/modify/overwrite. Because overwriting certain files could crash your virtual
server, the relink command is reserved for our system administrators, so you'll need to
contact us ahead of time so that we can make the appropriate changes.

Q: |
Can I create as many Mysql databases as needed?
| |
Yes, you have a dedicated mysql daemon.
The number and size of mysql databases are limited only by the amount of diskspace
available in your quota.

Q: |
If I resell accounts on our account, I assume I allocate my own space to my clients. Is this correct?
| |
Correct. You can give your own users ftp logins, emails,
domains, etc, much like we currently do for our managed hosting subscribers.
| |
Q: |
Can I virtually host up to xx different sites on my account?
| |
You are allowed to host a set amount of your own clients, sub sites, etc. The number that
you may host is dependent on which server package you purchase.
| |
Q: |
Is my bandwidth throttled? What happens if I exceed my bandwidth allocation?
| |
Your bandwidth is not throttled- you have full access to the
whatever is the current operating capacity of the entire network. Your bandwidth is metered,
however, so be careful upon how quickly you use up your allocated amount. You are
automatically notified by email as your account approaches and/or exceeds it's allocated amount.
Once your account exceeds the allocation, a surcharge is incurred for additional badnwidth usage.
Your account is not suspended or throttled in anyway after you have exceeded the allocation
(unless specifically requested by the you).

Q: |
Would the performance/speed be faster than it is on managed hosting - because right now it's not so great...?
| |
The machines that run the virtual servers are very high end Pentium IIIs (900+ MHz) and the
virtual servers are isolated on a completely seperate network, so performance should be much
improved.

Q: |
Can I transfer my existing Webpipe.net account with respects to email, mysql, domain transfer etc. seamlessly? Or will there be some downtime?
| |
Virtually seemlessly, what you can do is copy the account over to the new server and then
repoint the domain. Domain name changes take 24 - 72 hours to propegate, so some people would
hit the old site and some people would the newer site in that interim period, therefore both
versions would become out of sync.
