Q: |
What is my email address?
|
 |
| |
A: |
When you signed up with Webpipe, you picked an account name. This account name is the
same one you use to connect to Webpipe (if you have a dial-up account).
This account name is the first part of your email address, followed by "@webpipe.net".
For example, if "anyone" is your account name, your email address would be
"anyone@webpipe.net". And hosting example is
"anyone" is your account name, your email address
would be "anyone@whatever.com"
(after @ you would put your domain name there).

preferred email client.[more info]
If you just need the incoming (POP3/IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) server addresses which are
"mail.webpipe.net".

| |
Q: |
Can I check my email from another computer?
|
 |
| |
A: |
Yes. It is possible to set up your email account on a computer that's not connected to
Webpipe. If you do this, you need to be sure to set your outgoing mail server to
authenticate with your Webpipe account name and password. This, however, is not ideal
for using your email account from another computer. Webpipe offers "Webmail", which is
accessible from any browser and any Internet connection. All you have to do is point the
browser to http://mail.webpipe.net/
and for hosting customers point the browser "mail.yourdomain.com"
(you must type in your domain after "mail.")
and log in with your Webpipe account name and password.

|
| |
Q: |
Why do I get an error when trying to send email?
|
 |
| |
A: |
If you're getting the error "Error 550: relaying by administrator prohibited", or something
similar when trying to send an outgoing message, this means that you're trying to send a
message through Webpipe's email server (mail.webpipe.net) from a non-Webpipe network.
Webpipe's email server authenticates (or identifies that you're allowed to use the email
server) via IP address. If you're dialed-up or connected through another ISP, you'll have
one of their IP addresses and Webpipe's email server won't know who you are. This security
feature was put in place to make it impossible for bulk emailers to relay their SPAM through
Webpipe's email server.
To send messages with your Webpipe email account when connected to another provider, there
are three options. If the provider you're connected to has an outgoing (or SMTP) email server,
you can change the outgoing server setting in your email client to their email server. If the
other provider doesn't have an outgoing email server you can use, you can set your email
client to authenticate when sending outgoing messages and continue to use mail.webpipe.net
as your outgoing server. The last option is to use remote email client as mentioned above.
Another reason why you may be experiencing this problem is that you may have install a
anti-virus program and the settings in your email client have change. Please go into the
settings and make sure that the settings are correct

Q: |
I can not download my email or it starts to download and then it stops
|
 |
| |
A: |
There is a 1MB email size limit.Anything larger than this will be bounced back to the sender.
If, in the normal course of events, you check your e-mail and the volume of e-mail in your
account drops below the 10MB quota, Webpipe will automatically lift the cap. New e-mail will
begin to accumulate in your account once again. Should you have mail stuck due to large
attachments, corrupt messages or just too many e-mails, you can visit "mail.webpipe.net"
to check your Webpipe mail on the Web. Delete the mail that is causing the download problem, and
you will be able to download the rest of your mail into your regular e-mail program.

Q: |
Does Webpipe sell my email address to spammers?
|
 |
| |
A: |
Absolutely not. Webpipe.net does not sell any information about our customers to anyone. We neither
encourage spamming from our clients nor third parties. Spammers would have to get your email address
by some other means.
|
| |
Q: |
Where do spammers get my email address and What does Webpipe do to prevent spam?
|
 |
| |
A: |
There are many ways, actually. One method is when companies use information that you willingly
give them. When you sign up for a service or order products online, they will often ask for
your email address along with other personal information. There will usually be a small
check-box with fine print asking if you'd like to be added to mailing lists or have your
information shared with others. This is called "opt-in". You have to choose to be added to
lists or have your information shared with third parties. Many companies, on the other hand,
use the "opt-out" method. They assume it's all right until you say it's not. They will
usually state this in their privacy policy, if they have one.
Another method, and probably more popular, is to have programs that scour the Internet for
email addresses. They search Usenet newsgroups, web pages, mailing lists, message boards, and
any other public occurrence of email addresses. In turn, they either use this list for
themselves or sell the lists at a considerable profit.
Because of the way email addresses are gathered, you must be careful where you choose to
share your email address. The more public, the more chance there is for spammers to get ahold
of it. It's usually best to not provide your email address in these public situations or
guard it by adding extra characters (I.E.: webmaster@REMOVETHIS-webpipe.net).
Webpipe has implemented a filter program on our email server (this is for dialup customers) and
it does block certain elements as listed below:
We block email with certain keywords that are
commonly found in spam in both the subject and body.
We block email with headers that identify the
email as being created in known spam software.
We block repeat spammers by IP address or email
address.

Q: |
Can I administer my own email account?
|
 |
| |
A: |
Yes. You can administer your own account account. What that means for you is that you can
forward your email to another address and as well you can change your password. Another
reason why you might want to administer your own account is if you go on vacation and
do not want to check your email until you come back, you can leave a message to let every
one know that you will be gone and that you will respond when you get back.
